Maison & Maison allows you to design your own artistic mantel in exotic Maharaja Green marble. Our mantels are fully customized through your freedom in the choice of marble.
Maharaja Green marble is part of the family of green marbles from India. Hard and brittle, it is very difficult to carve. Maison & Maison suggests using this marble for your custom-made mantel only in combination with gilded bronze or electroplated ornaments.
This marble is very similar to Antique Green marble from Greece. An Empire style antique mantel was carved in Antique Green marble for the Green Room of the Hotel de Beauharnais in Paris.
Indian green marbles come from the state of Rajasthan, in the region of Keshariyaji near Udaipur. They dominated the market for green marble in the 1990s, at a time when large quantities were quarried and exported worldwide. They are used especially in architecture, but they are also present in many small decorative objects and mosaics.
