This sober mantel presents a shape that is typical of the Regence style. The slightly curved lines still retain the hieratic aspect of the Louis XIV style but adopt a new freedom, which announces the Louis XV style.
Coming directly from the ornamental repertoire of Louis XIV style mantels, a large molding runs under the entablature and crowns the corbel jambs. The shell motif, at the center of the front, and the softer lines herald the Louis XV style. The carvings are discreet but have a strong presence, mainly thanks to the molded panels on either side of the shell combined with the spandrels carved in relief. The jambs are also delicately carved with a decor of double recessed panels.
This fireplace mantel comes in several categories of marbles: Sarrancolin Ilhet, Sarrancolin Fantastico, semi-statuary Carrara, yellow Brocatelle, Royal red, Turquin blue and Panazeau.
